Seguimos con el mismo rollo de siempre. Informatica... y ya que estamos....

Que mejor que tratar de aclarar algo molesto...
Digamos, la batalla entre los OEM (su fabricante señor...) y Microsoft,

¿Quien tiene la culpa? ¿Quien me va a resolver esto?

Hay algo que visto con un poco de humor, resulta inevitablemente gracioso, y es lo siguiente...
"Como puede ser, que los OEM (HP, Sony VAIO, Lenovo, Packard bell, etc etc etc etc...) quemen tanto su imagen por el miserable costo de un DVD virgen..."

A que me refiero?

Bueno, no se cuantos de ustedes tienen compu (podrian leer esto desde un ciber antes de decirme "duh!")...
De aquellos que tienen computadoras propias, no sabria cuantos de ellos poseen equipos de marca,
Pero si se, que aquellos que poseen una PC y es de marca, son cantidatos para una montaña rusa de politicas de soporte...

-Detallemos, si?

Cuando uno compra una computadora de marca, que puede ser HP, Sony VAIO, etc... adquiere habitualmente, no solo el hardware, sino tambien un conjunto de software... Eso esta claro no?
En este conjunto de software, lo que viene puede variar... es decir. A veces nos viene con una subscripcion de un año para un antivirus, una licencia hogareña de Office, Pero siempre siempre (a menos que venga con GNU/Linux) nos dan tambien una linda licencia de Windows.

Si miramos con atencion a esta etiqueta simpatica y colorida donde esta nuestra clave de producto... podremos observar que posee habitualmente las letras OEM.

-Ya me salis con cosas raras vos... no ves que no se te entiende???
-Bueno bueno, segui leyendo, mira...

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer, es decir, Fabricante Original de Equipos.

-Aha, y?

Bueno, esto implica que nuestra flamante licencia de Windows, tiene las siguientes condiciones:

Fue vendida en cantidades importantes, primero, de Microsoft al fabricante y por un costo bajo.
Por eso mismo, si verifican el detalle de su factura de su equipo nuevo, veran que esta detallada la licencia de Windows y que su costo es pequeño...

Si, ya se que no tiene sentido, cuando en una tienda cuesta 400 u$s un Windows nuevo en caja... pero justamente, es distinto, no son tontos ellos...

Esa venta, tiene una condicion, y es que el soporte técnico de este equipo, tanto Windows como su hardware, lo tiene que brindar el fabricante... es decir, no posee soporte de Microsoft.

Ahora, cuantas veces llamaron a HP y les dijeron que "es problema del software, no puedo brindarle soporte" ???

Eso es bullshit... justamente el fabricante Tiene que brindar el soporte entero...
Pero que pasa? No estan capacitados, (no estoy diciendo que son ineptos, nada mas lejos de eso, no les enseñan el producto sobre el cual tienen que dar soporte) y no los culpo, dar soporte a Windows en su totalidad, es un bardo y no deberia mezclarse con dar soporte a mil modelos de hardware distinto...

Entonces que pasa,

Despues que HP nos dice eso, llamamos "re-calentitos" a Microsoft y exigimos nuestro soporte!

Bueno si, por contrato no nos corresponde, pero a MSFT no le gusta la publicidad negativa, ya tiene bastante con blue screens en sus presentaciones oficiales, y cosas como Vista... por lo cual, nos otorgan soporte igual, si les pegamos un par de gritos al q nos atiende primero.
Y supongamos que esta todo re bien, vamos sobre rieles... Nos crean un caso de soporte técnico, y llegamos (despues de un rato) a hablar con un técnico...
Y supongamos que tenemos mala suerte y nuestro problema, requiere del disco de Windows...

Si, ese disco, el que tiene hologramas lindo... o un disco cualquiera de Windows original... o ese que te compras en pque rivadavia, o ese que bajas de T... ese que se CONSIGUE EN TODOS LADOS....

Bueno, ese disco, nuestro queridisimo fabricante jamas nos lo dio...

Y aca, señoras y señores... es donde todos nos ponemos de pie y aplaudimos...

Como dije antes... Que manera pelotuda (extremadamente tonta) de causar mala imagen a no solo una, sino DOS compañías multinacionales, gigantes....

No nos dieron el disco... Y no nos van a dar el disco tampoco... (hasta ahora, que yo sepa, DELL es el unico que viene brindando el disco de Windows) y no solo eso, sino que por el OEM, nos van a querer cobrar por el envio de unos medios de recuperacion... y por Microsoft, nos van a querer cobrar por el dichoso disco de Windows.

-Para para para, perate perate perate, ¿Qué es eso del medio de recuperación?

Es, una manera de dejar nuestro equipo, en el mismo estado de software que se encontraba cuando lo compramos...

En algunos OEM es una serie de discos que nos dan, en otros es un disco que tenemos que generar nosotros y que si nos llegamos a olvidar de hacerlo y se nos rompe todo nos JODEMOS (hola.. HP...?) en otros es una particion oculta del disco duro que guarda este software y se activa presionando una tecla, etc etc...

Casi todos los OEM, nos traen de por si, este medio... pero que tiene de divertido? Nos borra todo... todas esas configuraciones preciosas que teniamos de Windows, nuestros datos (sisi, se respaldan, pero dan pocas ganas...) todos nuestros programas que tenemos que re-instalar...

-Y que nos queda?

Pregunten si trae el disco de Windows el equipo que compren,
Si no lo trae, traten de buscar una marca que lo traiga,
Si no la encuentran, En el caso de Vista y 7, pueden usar otro disco, que cuando le pongan la clave de producto va a quedar con su licencia.

Al menos, ahora sabran, los pocos que pasen por aca, jejeje, por qué, les dicen lo que les dicen, y por qué, llegaron a esa situacion.

Honestamente, personalmente, no entiendo, ni nunca entendi, que les cuesta otorgar un disco miserable de Windows... pero, probablemente la falta de vision que a veces tienen quienes toman las desiciones, los hizo pensar que iban a ahorrar un monton de dinero con algo que no haria nada de daño... no?

Esta copia de windows no es original

Antes que nada, este post no es un tutorial de como piratear Windows, solo es para aquellos que tienen windows original y reciben igualmente ese mensaje.

Sintoma

Posee Windows Vista original y a pesar de estar activado, se presenta un mensaje como si fuera parte del fondo de pantalla, el cual dice que "Esta copia de Windows no es original"

Causas

Componentes corruptos relacionados al servicio de licenciamiento de Windows Vista, Pseudo cracks anti activacion puestos por los OEMs., etc...

Soluciones

1)
Simplemente, ingresar a http://www.microsoft.com/latam/original
Dentro de ahi, podrá observar 2 botones amarillos grandes, uno que dice Validar Windows y otro que dice Validar Office.
Presione el que dice Validar Windows,
Si el sitio web solicita la instalacion de un componente ActiveX, preste atencion a la barra amarilla de la parte superior, e instalelo.
Luego, cuando termine, va a decir, "Gracias por validar esta copia de Windows"
Entonces, cierre todas las ventanas, y reinicie el equipo.
Una vez reiniciado, si todo salio bien, no va a estar mas el mensaje.

2)
Si, luego de hacer lo descripto en el punto 1, el incidente persiste...
Tendrá que hacer lo siguiente:
(es largo y son varios comandos, paciencia...)

Primero, hay que deshabilitar UAC, para hacerlo:
Primero, ingresar al MSCONFIG (inicio, ejecutar, msconfig, presione enter)
Luego, vaya a la pestaña "Herramientas",
En la misma, seleccione de la lista (que quede resaltado), el elemento "Deshabilitar UAC", y entonces presione el botón "Iniciar".
Aparecerá una ventana del interprete de comandos indicando que se completo correctamente, esa ventana simplemente cierrela.
Luego, reinicie el equipo, e inicielo bajo modo seguro.

Para iniciar bajo modo seguro, debe cuando la pantalla esta en negro, antes de iniciar nada, presionar repetidas veces de manera reiterada ( NO mantener presionado) la tecla F8 de la parte superior del teclado, hasta que aparezcan las opciones de inicio avanzadas, entonces se selecciona "Iniciar Windows en modo seguro" y presiona ENTER.

Una vez iniciado bajo modo seguro,
Hay que abrir Equipo, Disco local C, carpeta Windows, carpeta System32, y buscar un archivo llamado legitcheckcontrol.dll
Una vez encontrado el mismo, se debe renombrar, (puede ponerle el nombre que quiera siempre y cuando no sea legitcheckcontrol.dll)

Una vez renombrado, reinicie Windows y dejelo iniciar bajo modo normal. (el mensaje todavia estará ahi probablemente, paciencia, todavia falta)

Inicio, Todos los programas, Accesorios, y sobre donde dice "Simbolo de Sistema", se hace clic derecho y se selecciona "Ejecutar como administrador".
Una vez abierto el simbolo de sistema, se ejecuta "net stop slsvc" (sin comillas) y se presiona enter.
Una vez detenido el servicio, hay que ir a Equipo, Disco local C, carpeta Windows, carpeta ServiceProfiles, carpeta Network Service, carpeta appdata, carpeta roaming, carpeta microsoft y carpeta SoftwareLicensing (C:\windows\ServiceProfiles\Network Service\appdata\roaming\microsoft\SoftwareLicensing)
Una vez ahi, se debe eliminar el archivo "Tokens.dat"
Luego, volvemos a la ventana negra del interprete de comandos (si la cerró vuelva a abrirla exactamente de la misma manera que esta descripto arriba)
Y ejecute
"net start slsvc" (sin comillas) y presione enter,
El servicio iniciará nuevamente.
Luego, ahi mismo, ejecutamos
“slmgr –rilc” (sin comillas) y presione Enter
Aparecerá una ventana probablemente, la cual esperará a que termine de trabajar y puede dejar en segundo plano o cerrar, da igual.
Luego, ejecutamos el comando
“slmgr –rearm” (sin comillas) Enter,
y luego, se debe reiniciar el equipo una vez mas.

Es posible que con eso ya esté listo, o puede ser que windows indique no estar activado, si asi sucede, NO intente activar por internet, ejecute el asistente de activacion, seleccione la opcion telefonica y llame a Microsoft y alguien del Centro de Activaciones le dirá que hacer (ellos tienen que darles el ID de confirmacion)

Eso es todo...

No va a haber mas posts en ingles, hacen que me de muchisima vagancia postear, esas traducciones, eran a mano, sepanlo...

Windows Update Errors // Errores de Windows Update

Problema

Al intentar buscar actualizaciones mediante Windows Update, tanto en XP como en Vista, puede que suceda lo siguiente:
· Al intentar buscar actualizaciones reciba un error casi inmediato
· Tras haber descargado las actualizaciones, las intenta instalar y le indica que no se pudieron instalar algunas actualizaciones (usualmente son todas).
· Otros errores variados que puedan surgir durante el proceso (no recuerdo tooodos los escenarios exactos)
·
Causas

Usualmente, estos errores se deben o bien a un bloqueo en la conexion (como puede ser un firewall, o el resto de uno) o una DLL no registrada, o archivos dañados de sistema. Pero usualmente se deben a la corrupcion de los archivos ubicados en ciertas carpetas de sistema especificas.
(Tanto XP como Vista)

Soluciones

XP: Abrir un interprete de comandos (inicio, ejecutar, "cmd" y presionar ENTER)

Vista: Ingresar CMD en "iniciar búsqueda", y cuando aparece el resultado "CMD" con el icono negro, hacerle clic derecho y seleccionar "Ejecutar como Administrador

Luego dentro del intérprete, tipear los siguientes comandos, presionando la tecla ENTRAR tras cada uno de ellos.

NOTAS:
Tener en cuenta que es más sencillo copiar y pegar dichos comandos en la ventana de intérprete de comandos, más que intentar tipearlos.
Si se desea pegar texto en el interprete de comandos, no utilizar el método abreviado (CTRL + V) el cual no funcionara, simplemente hacer clic derecho sobre el fondo negro de la ventana y seleccionar Pegar.

Una vez reiniciado el equipo, verificar de intentar realizar las actualizaciones
Es normal que tras estos pasos, el sistema tarde mas en “buscar actualizaciones”, así como también es normal que en el historial de actualizaciones no aparezca nada.

When you try to use Windows Update the following may happen:
· You can receive an almost immediate error after searching for updates.
· After downloading updates, Windows is not able to install any of them.

Causes

Usually, these errors are because of a software blocking the connection or a not registered DLL library or even damaged system files.
But usually these errors are because of the corruption of specific system folders.
(This applies to both XP and Vista)

Solutions

XP: Open a command prompt (start, run, “cmd” and hit ENTER)

Vista: Type CMD under the “start search” field and when you see the search result on the upper part of the start menu, right click on it and hit “Run as Administrator”.

Then input the following commands, hitting the ENTER key after each one.

NOTE:
Have in mind that is more simple to copy and paste the commands on the command prompt windows rather than manually type them.
If you want to paste text on the command prompt, do not use CTRL + V, just make one right click on the black background and hit Paste.

It is OK if the system takes longer than usual checking for updates.

ESPAÑOL:

Problema:

Aparece un mensaje indicando que ud. podría ser víctima de la piratería en la parte inferior derecha de la pantalla.

Causas probables:

Si tienes Windows Original preinstalado por el fabricante de tu equipo, la causa mas probable es que la imagen que fue copiada a tu disco duro, tiene una clave de producto absolutamente inválida, distinta de la clave que tienes pegada en el equipo.

Si tienes Windows pirata instalado, la causa es precisamente que es pirata y que no has tenido los recaudos necesarios xD.

Soluciones:

Si tienes Windows Original preinstalado,

Primero debes corroborar si la clave de producto que está instalada en tu equipo, es la misma que has comprado, (la que está pegada en tu equipo).
Para ello, debes descargar la siguiente herramienta:
Ftp.microsoft.com.ar/so/tools/mgadiag.exe

Una vez descargada, la ejecutas y mostrará una información,

La información que nos interesa, puntualmente, son los 2 primeros renglones, en el primero usualmente, veremos algo así como “Blocked VLK” (puede variar) y en el segundo, podrá ver los últimos 3 campos de una clave de producto, dicha clave es la que actualmente se encuentra instalada en el equipo.

Verifique si la misma es igual o distinta a la que tiene pegada en su equipo, en este incidente, usualmente son distintas y continuaremos asumiendo que son distintas.
Ahora que hemos corroborado que la clave es distinta, necesitamos instalar la clave genuina que está pegada en su equipo al sistema.

Para ello, utilizaremos una herramienta, la cual es de Microsoft, y se llama Herramienta de Actualización de Clave de Producto, la podemos descargar de aquí.
ftp.microsoft.com.ar/so/tools/kut.exe

Una vez descargada, la debemos ejecutar, pero antes asegúrate que no existe ningún firewall activado ni en el equipo, ni en la red, de lo contrario, la herramienta no funcionará.

Ahora debemos ejecutar la herramienta, presionando siguiente en todos los casos.
Durante el proceso de validación de archivos, es posible que detecte varios archivos de sistema modificados la herramienta y arroje una advertencia, igualmente, vamos a seleccionar continuar.

El programa pedirá que ingrese la clave, en ese caso, ingresa tu clave genuina, y continúa con el proceso.
Cuando el proceso finalice, va a pedir reiniciar, seleccione finalizar para reiniciar.

Una vez reiniciado, verificar con la herramienta MGADIAG nuevamente y si todo salió bien, aparecerá GENUINE en el primer renglón.

Si se tiene Windows Pirata:

Se puede obviamente llamar a Microsoft y comprar Windows XP siempre. pero supongo que no es eso lo que estamos buscando no? ;-)

Básicamente el mensaje que aparece, es una actualización que se instala mediante Windows Update, y se llama herramienta de notificación del Programa de Ventajas de Windows.

Inicia el Administrador de Tareas (Ctrl+Alt+Del).

Finaliza el proceso WgaTray.exe con el Administrador de Tareas (solapa procesos)

Reinicia Windows XP en Modo Seguro (Safe Mode).
(Presionando F8 repetidas veces antes q aparezca el logo de Windows XP mientras la PC inicia)

Borra el archivo WgaTray.exe de c:\Windows\System32.

Borra el archivo WgaTray.exe de c:\Windows\System32\dllcache.

Ve a Inicio->Ejecutar y escribe regedit y presiona Enter
Encuentra la carpeta en la dirección:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft Windows\ NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
Borra la carpeta ‘WgaLogon’.

Reinicia Windows bajo modo normal.

Ahora, no aparecerá mas, pero, si tienes las actualizaciones automáticas activadas, se te va a volver a instalar, para evitarlo, ingresa a windows update (update.microsoft.com) y en la lista de actualizaciones, marca "Windows Genuine Advantage validation notification tool" o "Herramienta de notificación de las ventajas de Windows Original" para que no se vuelva a instalar mas.

A notification that states that you may be a victim from piracy appears on the lower right part of the screen.

Causes:

If you have Genuine Windows and it came preinstalled by your computer’s manufacturer, the most probable cause is that the image that was written on your hard drive has an invalid product key installed. I mean a product key different from the one you got attached to your computer.
If you have an illegal copy of Windows installed, the cause is, that you have not been enough careful.

Solutions:

If you have a genuine copy of Windows and it was installed by your computer’s manufacturer,

First you must check if the Product Key that is currently installed on the PC, is the same that you have bought. (The one that is attached to your computer)
In order to do so, you must download and run the following tool:
Ftp.microsoft.com.ar/so/tools/mgadiag.exe

Once downloaded, and executed it will show some information,

The information we care about, are the “Genuine Validation Status” and “Product Key” fields.

It is probable that under Genuine Validation Status, you may see, “Blocked VLK” .
Now, under the Product Key field, you are going to see, the last 3 group of digits of the product key that is currently installed on your computer. Verify if this key is the same or it is different from the one attached to your computer (we are going to continue assuming that the key is different)

Now that we have checked that the product key installed in Windows is different from the one that is attached to your computer, we need to install the genuine one in Windows.
In order to do so, we are going to have to use the Key Update Tool, from Microsoft, you can download it here:
ftp.microsoft.com.ar/so/tools/kut_en.exe

Once downloaded, we need to run it, but before, make sure that there is no firewall running on your computer or your network, if there is a firewall, the Key Update Tool will not work properly.

Now, run the software, pressing “next” in all the steps.

During the process it may happen that the tool will show some warnings regarding the modified system files. You have to select to continue anyway.

Eventually, the software is going to ask you to type in your product key, then, type the genuine product key and continue with the process.

Once the process is completed, the tool is going to prompt you for restart, then click on finish to restart the computer.
Once restarted run the MGADIAG tool, and if everything went OK, you should see “GENUINE” under the “Genuine Validation Status” field.

If you have an illegal copy of Windows installed:

You can of course call Microsoft and buy a legal copy of Windows XP, but that is not what you are looking for right? ;-)

Basically this message is an update, the update is called Windows Genuine Advantage notification tool.

So, launch the task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del)

End the “wgatray.exe” process.

Restart Windows XP under safe mode.

(you have to press the F8 key repeatedly before the Windows XP logo appears)
Delete the file WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32.

Delete the file WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache.

Go to Start -> Run and type ”regedit” (without the quotes) and hit Enter
Find the following key:

Problema:
No puede añadir una impresora en red que se encuentra localmente instalada en un equipo legacy (Windows XP, Windows 98, etc) a un equipo basado en Windows Vista.

Causas:
Es posible que los controladores que provee el equipo con Windows XP, no sean compatibles con Windows Vista e incluso causen un error al intentar instalarlos.

Soluciones:
Antes que nada, verificar en el sitio del fabricante de la impresora, si la misma es compatible con Windows vista, y si lo es, si existen controladores disponibles.
De ser así, descargarlos para su posterior uso.

Hacer clic en inicio, y en iniciar búsqueda, ingresar cmd.
En la parte superior del menú inicio, aparecerá el resultado de búsqueda, el cual será cmd, con un icono negro. A ese mismo, hacer click derecho y seleccionar ejecutar como administrador.

Dentro del interprete de comandos, tipear el siguiente comando:
“Net use lpt1 \\equipo98\nombre_de_red_de_impresora /persistent:yes” sin las comillas (siendo “equipo98” el nombre de red del equipo donde esta conectada la impresora y “nombre_de_red_de_impresora” el nombre de red de dicha impresora)
Presione ENTER,

Luego, instalar una nueva impresora LOCAL en Windows Vista, que utilice el puerto LPT1, y cuando el sistema pregunte por controladores, ingrese la marca y modelo de la impresora en cuestión o bien, apuntar al controlador descargado del sitio del fabricante.

Una vez realizado ello, es posible que podamos imprimir, desde Windows Vista a esta impresora en red.

Tras ingresar su equipo con Windows Vista a su red de grupo de trabajo, ud. no ve a los demás equipos (usualmente Windows XP), adicionalmente puede suceder que desde los demás equipos no pueda acceder al equipo con Windows Vista.

Causas:
Usualmente, las personas al intentar ingresar a un equipo en la red, suelen intentarlo mediante "mis sitios de red" y luego hacen doble click en el icono del equipo a acceder. Entonces podría suceder que si intentamos acceder desde uno de los equipos con WXP, no visualicemos el equipo con Windows Vista, por ende podríamos suponer que existe algún tipo de incidente con el equipo con vista, o con el sistema operativo mismo.

Podría estar el equipo a acceder, (Windows Vista) protegido por un firewall de terceros y por ende, no poder acceder al mismo.

Soluciones:
Siempre suponiendo que ambos equipos ya se encuentran dentro del mismo grupo de trabajo.

Si no estamos viendo el equipo en nuestros “mis sitios de red” desde los equipos con WXP, intentemos acceder de la siguiente manera:

Inicio, ejecutar e ingresemos "\\nombre de equipo con Windows Vista" (sin las comillas), siendo “nombre de equipo con Windows Vista” precisamente, el nombre de equipo que tiene el equipo con Windows Vista.

Para conocer cuál sería el nombre de equipo del Vista, podemos acceder a inicio, Panel de Control, Sistema y mantenimiento, y Sistema.
Dentro de Sistema, verificamos el modulo del medio que nos dirá precisamente el nombre de equipo.
Es muy probable que si no lo veíamos ahora podamos acceder.

Ahora,

Si tras haber hecho el paso anterior, no podemos acceder aún porque recibimos un error de acceso denegado, o bien, desde un principio el equipo se veía en la red y no se puede acceder igualmente, es muy probable que se deba a la existencia de un firewall de terceros en el Vista.

Si el equipo con Vista vino pre instalado en el equipo por el fabricante, es muy probable que también venga acompañado de varios software adicionales, como ser Norton Internet Security o varios otros, (siendo Norton el más común)
Si es así, verificar nuevamente tras desactivar dicho software y es muy probable que si pueda acceder.

Siempre es bueno tener en cuenta las siguientes recomendaciones al trabajar en red con equipos Vista y XP:

Si el equipo vino preinstalado, siempre tener en cuenta el firewall adicional que podría tener, no olvidar que el mal uso de un firewall podría dejar un sistema absolutamente cerrado.
Verificar mediante el comando Ipconfig /all, que el equipo haya tomado debidamente IP, del DHCP.
Verificar con el comando ping, si el equipo tiene conectividad con las direcciones IP de los demás equipos y viceversa, un error de tiempo de espera agotado casi siempre significa la presencia de algún firewall.
Intentar deshabilitar TCP/IP Version 6, dado que Windows XP, por defecto no la utiliza.

If after performing that step, we are receiving an Access denied error, or we were receiving that error from the beginning, it very likely that a third party firewall is preventing you from Access the computer.

If the Windows Vista based computer came with all the software preinstalled by the manufacturer, it is probable that It came with some third party firewall also preinstalled, like Norton Internet Security or maybe several others (being Norton the most common one)

If that’s the case then check disabling or uninstalling these software.

It is always a good idea to have in mind the following when working on a networkin with Vista and XP based computers:

If the computer came with the software preinstalled, always have in mind the third party firewall, having a bad configured firewall can make your computer a fortress and therefore block everything.
Check with the ipconfig /all command, that the computer is properly taking the IP address from the DHCP server.
Check with the ping command if the computer has connectivity with the other computer’s ip addresses and vice versa, if you receive a timeout error with the ping command it is very likely due to a firewall.
Try to disable TCP/IP version 6 protocol if it not necessary, since this protocol it is not implemented in Windows XP by default.

Síntoma:
Cuando conecta un dispositivo de almacenamiento USB, el mismo es reconocido como dispositivo en el Administrador de dispositivos, pero no aparece como una unidad adicional en el explorador de Windows.

Adicionalmente podría suceder que si ingresa al administrador de discos, encuentre el dispositivo, le asigne una letra, pero igualmente siga sin aparecer y el funcionamiento del mismo no sea 100% correcto, ej: no soporte nombres de archivo largos. y/o nos arroje un error de que la carpeta no existe al tratar de abrirlo por primera vez.
Ej: “la unidad E:\ no existe” y de hecho, solo se pueda abrir dicha unidad, seleccionando clic derecho sobre la misma en el administrador de discos y seleccionando abrir.

Hay varios motivos que podrían causar esto, intentaremos cubrir desde el mas sencillo, al (por lo menos para mi) mas complejo.

Primera Causa:
Ud ha asignado o montado una unidad de red en la letra que sigue inmediatamente a la unidad de CD-ROM local, por ejemplo, ha asignado un recurso de red a E:\ y el dispositivo USB que intenta utilizar, solo puede ser usado en dicha letra (por diseño de fabrica suele ser asi en algunos casos)

Solución:
Desconecte su dispositivo USB si no lo ha hecho aún.
Quite la asignación del recurso de red que ha montado.
Asígnelo nuevamente utilizando las letras desde Z para abajo. Por ej, asígnelo a Z, o bien a X.
Reintente conectar el dispositivo USB.

Segunda Causa:
Ud ha tiene instalado algún software que administra unidades virtuales, (daemon tools, nero image drive, etc) y estas unidades virtuales, están asignadas en E:\ o en D:\.

Solución:
Deshabilite dicha función de dicho software, o bien desinstálelo.
Conecte su dispositivo USB.
Con el mismo conectado y ya reconocido correctamente, ud. Puede reinstalar o rehabilitar las unidades virtuales de dichos software ya que ahora se asignaran a letras que no interrumpan con el dispositivo USB.

Tercera Causa:
UD tiene o ha tenido instalado software de grabación de medios o bien administradores de unidades virtuales (ej, Nero, Alcohol, Roxio, Daemon tools) y dichos software han escrito una llave UpperFilters en el registro del sistema.

Solución:
Elimine dicha llave, para ello, haga clic en Inicio, luego en Ejecutar e ingrese “regedit” (sin las comillas) y presione ENTER.

Se abrirá el Editor del Registro del Sistema, una vez abierto, diríjase a la siguiente ubicación:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Con esta clave seleccionada, en el panel de la derecha verifique si se encuentra el valor del tipo multi string: UpperFilters.
De encontrarse, verifique si su valor es: PartMgr
De ser asi, exporte la clave de registro por precaución, y elimine por completo el valor “UpperFilters”.

Reinicie el equipo.
Aguarde a que los procesos de auto detección de hardware finalicen, y finalmente, conecte su dispositivo USB y verifique el funcionamiento.

Symptom

When you connect a USB storage device it is detected as a device by the Device Manager, but does not appear as another unit in Windows Explorer.

In addition, you may enter the device manager and see this device, you may assign a drive letter to it but still does not show itself on Windows Explorer and it’s functionality may not be 100% accurate either (for example: does not support long filenames and/or we get an “E:\ folder does not exists” error when we try to access it for the first time and in fact you can only access it by double- clicking it and selecting “OPEN” from the Disk Manager.

There are several reasons that may cause this behavior; we are going to try to cover from the simplest to the most complex (at least for me).

First Cause:
You have assigned or mounted a network resource to a drive letter and this letter is the next to the one used by the CD-ROM local unit.
For example, you have assigned a network resource on the E:\ letter and your USB storage device can only be used on this very same letter. (This uses to be like this in some cases due to manufacturer’s design).

Solution:
Unplug your USB storage device if you are not done that yet.
Unmount or unassign your network resource.
Reassign it again by using the letters starting from the Z letter. For example assign it to Z or X as well.
Reconnect your USB device and see if it works.

Second Cause:
You have installed some virtual unit manager software such as Daemon Tools, Nero Image Drive, etc, and these virtual units are assigned on E:\ or on D:\.

Solution:
Disable these software’s functions or even uninstall the software.
Plug your USB device.
Once you got your device plugged and properly recognized you may now try to enable or reinstall your virtual units software because now they will not going to interfere with the device.

Third Cause:
You have or used to have some CD/DVD burning software or virtual units manager such as Nero, Alcohol, Roxio, Daemon Tools, etc. and these software have written an “UpperFilters” value on the System Registry.

Solution:
Delete this key.
To do this, click on start, then on Run, once with the Run window open, type “regedit” (without the quotation marks) and press ENTER.
The Registry Editor will open, once opened go to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

With this key selected, verify if there is a multi string value on the right pane named UpperFilters.
If it is there, check if it’s value is PartMgr
If so export this key for precaution reasons and then completely erase the UpperFilters value.

Restart your system.
Wait for the hardware auto detection process to be completed and finally plug your USB device and check if it works.

Problema:
Luego de la desinstalación de el Antivirus Norton o el paquete de seguridad Norton Internet Security (desde ahora NAV y NIS, respectivamente), usted no puede navegar correctamente por Internet.

Posibles Causas:
Tanto el NAV como el NIS, al desinstalarse, a veces no lo hacen correctamente y deja servicios activos y/o dañados.

Primero:

Let’s tweak DOOM 3 a little.

There are various ways to get DOOM 3 a little bit faster and better.

It’s not magic, but it can make the difference between playable and unplayable.

First of all, make sure detail it’s not higher than your computer can handle, yes it sounds dummy but many people falls in this and the automatic hardware detection of the game is not always right…

Let’s see first at least a little of the specs for each video detail level, this can be easily changed using the in game menus.

Low Quality:

This is designed for video cards with 64 mb of VRAM, it uses compressed textures, lower textures resolutions.

One sound per action.

So this mode, saves lots of Video RAM from your video card and lots of RAM from your system.

Medium Quality:

This mode is for video cards with 128MB of VRAM, still uses compressed textures, but they are showed at full resolution.

The sounds will have more variation.

This mode is the most well balanced, however as I said before, the DOOM 3 scan hardware can put this mode on PC that actually don fit with it.

High Quality:

This mode is for video cards with 256MB of VRAM, no texture compression, the anisotropic filtering will be enabled and set to 8x.

This looks real nice and of course uses lots of VRAM.

Ultra High Quality:

This is the highest mode of all… the fucking monster xD

This mode is for video cards with 512MB of VRAM, NO compression of anything.

All is set to high. The only thing that remains to set by yourself is the Anti Aliasing

Obviously, this mode uses the most of VRAM and processing power.

And obviously indeed, it looks awesome, here is when you can appreciate the full power of this game.

To bring up the console in DOOM 3 you must press CLT + ALT + (the key at the left of the 1 key)

In order to make the access easier (just pressing the key at the left of the 1 key)

Put the following command “set com_allowconsole 1” (without the “)

We are now ready to begin make changes in the console.

image_useCache - If set to 1, uses background loading to cache image information.

mage_cacheMegs [Megabytes] - Determines the maximum amount of system memory to allocate full-sized precompressed images if the cache is enabled by setting image_useCache to 1. You can try putting 128MB if you have 512MB of RAM, 256MB if 1GB and so on.

r_multiSamples [0,2,4,8,16] - Determines the level of Antialiasing. The numerical values here are 0 (off), 2, 4, 8 and 16.

r_skipParticles [0,1] - If set to 1, this disables all particle effects. This can greatly improve performance in areas with these effects, however it can reduce realism greatly as well.

r_skipMegaTexture [0,1] - If set to 1, uses only the lowest level images. This improves performance at the cost of lower image quality for some surfaces.

r_mode [-1,3,4,5,6,7,8] - This setting determines the resolution. The mode values are 3 = 640x480, 4 = 800x600, 5 = 1024x768, 6 = 1152x864, 7 = 1280x1024 and 8 = 1600x1200.

image_usePrecompressedTextures [0,1] - When set to 1, all textures will be precompressed, resulting in less video memory being used and hence smoother performance on most machines. If set to 0, this setting will force realtime compression on textures which results in reduced image quality and performance.

image_preload [0,1] - If set to 1, Doom 3 attempts to preload most images in the background, meaning less loading pauses during the game but longer loading times. If set to 0, images are loaded dynamically as needed, meaning more loading pauses during the game. 1 is the recommended setting.

There are many others commands and variables, and we are not trying to cover up all of them, only the most relevant ones.

We shall now, proceed to the most important tweak.

The following tweak marked the difference for me, the difference between playable and unplayable.

The packages mehod.

This method consist in unpacking the data contained on the pk4 files of DOOM 3.

They are located on the \Doom 3\base\ folder.

1. Do not delete the .pk4 files. Move them somewhere else on your system.

2. Rename each file from .pk4 to .zip.

3. Extract the contents of each file using WinZip or WinRar (or whatever you like) to the \Doom 3\base\ directory. This will take a while depending on your machine speed, feel free to make some coffee.

4. You can now start Doom 3 and it should read these files much more quickly.

Explanation:

The files inside pk4 packages are accessed all the time during gameplay.

By unpacking them we will eliminate those little pauses in the game, for example when a monster comes up (or worst, various monsters) the game has to access those files and unpack them in real time. This generates little pauses, which can be VERY annoying.

So this method does not increase frame rate, but literally eliminates those little pauses.

And this makes a lot of difference when playing.

Toqueteemos un poco el DOOM 3

Hay varias formas de hacer que el DOOM 3 corra un poquito mejor y mas rápido

No es magia, pero puede hacer la diferencia entre jugable e injugable.

Primero que nada verifiquemos que el nivel de detalle no sea mayor que el que la computadora puede manejar. Si, suena tonto, pero mucha gente cae con esto y la auto detección de hardware del DOOM 3 no siempre detecta bien.

Veamos primero al menos un poquito de las especificaciones de cada nivel de detalle de video.

Estos parámetros pueden ser fácilmente cambiados desde los menús incluidos en el juego.

Calidad Baja:

Este modo esta diseñado para placas de video de 64MB de VRAM, usa texturas comprimidas y de baja resolución.

Solo un sonido por acción.

Calidad Media:

Este modo es para placas de video de 128MB, también usa texturas comprimidas pero las muestra a toda su resolución.

Los sonidos son más variados.

Calidad Alta:

Este modo es para placas de video de 256MB de VRAM, las texturas ya no están comprimidas y el filtrado anisotropico esta automáticamente activado y en 8x.

Este modo se ve muy lindo y obviamente consume mucha VRAM y procesamiento.

Calidad ULTRA Alta:

Este es el modo más alto de todos… El puto monstruo xD

Este modo esta diseñado para placas con 512MB de VRAM. No hay compresión de nada. Todos los valores están puestos al máximo, lo único que quedaría por subir a mano es el Antialias.

Este es el modo que más VRAM y procesamiento consume

Y obviamente se ve alucinante. En este modo se puede apreciar el poder completo de este juego.

La Consola

En la consola del DOOM 3 así como en la mayoría de los juegos basados en engine de ID se pueden cambiar muchas cosas, para muchos propósitos.

Ahora vamos a abarcar algunos de los comandos y variables que van a hacer la diferencia en la performance del juego.

Para llamar a la consola debemos presionar CLT + ALT + (la tecla a la izq. del 1)

Para hacer que el acceso a la consola sea más rápido, solo presionando la tecla a la izquierda del 1

Ingresemos el comando “set com_allowconsole 1” (sin las comillas)

Ahora estamos listos para comenzar a hacer cambios en la consola.

image_useCache – si esta en 1 hace el cargado de imágenes en cache en segundo plano.

mage_cacheMegs [Megabytes] – Determina la cantidad máxima de memoria del sistema para alojar texturas precomprimidas en tamaño complete si la cache esta activada con el comando image_useCache 1. Se puede poner 128MB si uno tiene 512MB de RAM del sistema, 256MB si uno tiene 1GB y así….

r_multiSamples [0,2, 4, 8, 16] – Determina el nivel de anti alias. Los valores numéricos son 0, (apagado), 2, 4, 8 y 16.

r_skipParticles [0,1] – Si esta en 1, esto deshabilita los efectos de partículas. Esto puede aumentar bastante la performance en áreas con esos efectos, pero también reduce mucho el realismo del juego.

r_skipMegaTexture [0,1] – Si esta en 1, usa solo las imagines de menor nivel. Esto aumenta la performance con el costo de calidad de imagen baja en algunas superficies.

r_mode [-1,3,4,5,6,7,8] – Este parámetro determina la resolución. Los valores son 3 = 640x480, 4 = 800x600, 5 = 1024x768, 6 = 1152x864, 7 = 1280x1024 y 8 = 1600x1200.

image_usePrecompressedTextures [0,1] – Cuando esta en 1, todas las texturas serán precomprimidas, resultando en menos memoria de video usada y performance mas suave en la mayoría de las PC. Si esta en 0, este parámetro forzara la compresión en tiempo real de texturas lo cual resulta en menor calidad de imagen y menos performance.

image_preload [0,1] – Si esta en 1, el DOOM 3 precarga las imagines en Segundo plano, lo cual significa menos pausas de carga en el juego, pero tiempos de carga mas largos. Si esta en 0, las imágenes son cargadas dinámicamente a medida que son necesitadas, lo cual significa más pausas de cargas durante el juego. 1 es el valor recomendado.

Hay muchos otros comandos y variables, no estamos tratando de cubrirlos todos.

Solo los más relevantes.

Ahora vamos a proceder al truco más importante.

Este truquito marco la diferencia para mí, la diferencia entre jugable e injugable.

El método de los paquetes.

Este método consiste en descomprimir los archivos que se encuentran en los pk4 del DOOM 3

Ellos se encuentran en la carpeta \Doom3\base\

1. No borres los pk4, movelos a algún otro lado en el sistema.

2. Renombra cada archivo .pk4 a .zip

3. Extrae los datos de esos pk4 en la carpeta \Doom3\base\ usando el WinZip o el WinRar (o cualquiera que te guste), esto va a tomar un rato dependiendo la maquina que tengas, si queres preparate un café.

4. Ahora podes iniciar el DOOM 3, debería leer esos archivos mucho mas rápido.

Explicación:

Los archivos adentro de los paquetes pk4 son accesados constantemente durante el juego.

Desempaquetándolos ahora eliminamos las pequeñas pausas en el juego, por ej, cuando aparecía un monstruo (o peor, varios monstruos) el juego debía acceder esos archivos y desempaquetarlos en tiempo real. Esto genera pequeñas pausas lo cual puede ser MUY molesto.

Asi que, este método no incrementa los cuadros por segundo, pero literalmente elimina esas pequeñas pausas.

Y hace mucha diferencia a la hora de jugar.

Problem: When installing the game "Star Wars, Knights of the Old Republic" an exception 0x80040707 may jump in and interrupt the setup process.

Causes: Based on forums reports, this error happens when installation it's about to prompt for Disk 3 insertion, can also be found just after insterting the 2nd Disk.
The installation will fail and the PC, probably hangs...

Usually this error code is the result of:

Corrupt windows sistem files and/or corrupt installshield files and/or invalid paths in the windows registry and/or NT policies, etc, etc...
But right now we are assuming that you have tried every (or at least many) solutions for that kind of issues, and you got a clean system.

The easiest way to check this is executing any installation which uses InstallShield, if any other installation works fine, we may proceed to the solution of the Kotor II installation problem.

Solution:

This is not a final solution actually... it's mostly a way of get rid of this and get the game installed and working.
1) Make sure you have at least 6 GB, and create a folder on your local hard drive (usually C:) named "Kotor Installation" (you can also name it whatever you want) copy all content from CD1 to this folder.
2) Copy the cabinet files from CD2 CD3 and CD4 to the same folder (there is one per CD)
3) Run the setup from this folder, this can be done by runing the "setup.exe" file and install the game normally.

If everything works fine there will be no more error prompt and the game will be installed.

It seems that the installshield program this game uses, has some problem prompting for "insert next disc"... so what we have done here is eliminated that specific step by gathering all the install data into one single folder.

After the installation you can delete the "Kotor Installation" folder to save like about 2.3 GB...
and play with the cds normally...

Problema: Durante la instalacion del juego “Star Wars, Knights of the old republic II” sale un error de excepción 0x80040707 y la instalacion se cierra.

Causas: Basado en reportes de foros, el problema aparece cuando el programa de instalacion esta a punto de pedir el CD3, tambien puede ser encontrado justo luego de instertar el CD2, la instalacion falla y la pc probablemente se cuelga.

Usualmente este codigo de error es el resultado de:

Archivos de sistema de Windows corruptos y/o archivos corruptos de Installshield y/o rutas invalidas en el registro de Windows y/o politicas de NT y/o etc etc…

Pero ahora mismo vamos a suponer que vos probaste todas (o por lo menos varias) soluciones a errores de ese tipo y tenes un sistema limpio.

La forma mas facil de comprobar esto es ejecutando cualquier otra instalacion que use el instalador InstallShield, si cualquier otra funciona bien, podremos proceder con la solucion del error de la instalacion del KOTOR2

Solucion:

Esta no es una solucion final en realidad, es mas bien una forma de evitar el problema y tener el juego instalado y funcionando.

1) Asegurate que tenes al menos 6 Gb aprox, libres en tu disco duro y crea en el mismo (usualmente C:) una carpeta que se llame “kotor installation” (tambien la podes nombrar como te guste) y copia todo el contenido del CD1 en esa carpeta.

2) Copia el archivo cabinet de los cds 2, 3 y 4 a la misma carpeta.

3) Corre la instalacion del juego desde esta misma carpeta, esto se hace ejecutando el archivo “setup.exe” e instalalo.

Si todo salio bien, no tiene que haber mas mensaje de error y el juego deberia estar instalado.

Parece que el programa Installshielld que usa el KOTOR2 tiene un problema cuando tiene que saltar la ventana de instertar el CD siguiente. Lo que hemos hecho aca es eliminar ese paso especifico juntando todos los datos de instalacion en una sola carpeta.

Luego de la instalacion vos podes borrar la carpeta “kotor installation” para asi salvar aproximadamente 2.3 GB.

Y jugar con los CDs de manera normal.
